The Primary source I have found is from State tech magazine from the 12th Feb 2013. The main point that this article makes is that BYOD is good for work and users.
This article has useful video and quote. In the video, Kimberly Hancher, CIO of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, said that 75% of her staff use their own iPhone because young people are more productive using their own technology.
The main problem for the government is the issue of security because government information maybe secret. However, governments can protect data on laptops by encrypting them and if the laptop is lost, they can remotely wipe it.
Government departments can also save money with a BYOD policy. The state of Delaware is saving 50% by not buying mobile devices. More money is saved because they do not have to support the devices.
‘’…And by decentralizing that, the management has been placed down to the agency level, so it’s actually less burdensome on the central IT authority.” — Bill Hickox, Delaware Department of Technology and Information
Overall, this article is useful as it supports the benefits of BYOD but I wonder about security of data and how IT will develop in the future.
