My first impression of Little Paradise started when I looked at the cover. It made me really interested about the woman on the cover.
To find out about the woman, I read about the author Gabrielle Wang who is a Chinese but grew up in Australia and only spoke English.
As I started reading, I became interested in the history and experiences of the Chinese in Melbourne. I hadn’t realized it was so hard to live in another country for the Chinese, because of their different faces, hair, name or pronunciation. We will all be different.
After reading the first two chapters I wondered what would happen next and made me think about What will Lei An’s and her family’s life be.
I enjoyed learning new words and expressions. Such as, soothsayer, oracle, bagua and so on.
